The technique was used in Banks to verify the integrity of employees, private investigators pretended to be employees to discover internal robberies. In 1940, Wilmark used the term and began using it to describe the technique of evaluating customer service provided by companies.
During the 1950s Mystery Shopping services did not prosper, economies were recovering from World War II, but as we began the 1970s, interest was rekindled.
In the 1980s the term and service became popular, gaining notoriety in its application by companies. Today, thanks to technological advances and their benefits the industry continues to advance.
